On Thursday, September 19, reports surfaced stating that Salman Khan was all set to make a cameo appearance in Rohit Shetty directed Singham Again. While these reports have turned out to be untrue – you read that right, Khan isn’t joining the Shetty’s cop drama, an old video of Rohit crediting Salman for kickstarting the Singham franchise has gone viral on social media.
Rohit Shetty reveals Salman Khan starrer Wanted inspired Singham franchise
Soon after reports of Salman Khan’s possible cameo in Singham Again surfaced, an old video of Rohit Shetty went viral. In this clip, the filmmaker revealed that it was Salman’s 2009 mass actioner Wanted that inspired him to kickstart the Singham series. In this video, Rohit is heard saying, “I’ll tell you what. I made Singham because of Wanted. That was a phase when multiplex had come in. It was 2009, I was making All The Best. PVR had just opened up, new. And that time nobody was making mass-action films. And Wanted was one underdog which came.”
The filmmaker added that when he saw the film in theatre he saw kids clapping and whistling while watching Salman. Revealing the effect it has on him, the filmmaker shared, “I was like, the time has come back to make mass entertainer because even, abhi multiplex mein bhi seetiya aur taali bajne lagi hain. And in then, we made Singham in 2011.” Watch the video here:
